Mudgee Mudgee

With a continuous history of winemaking since the 1850s, Mudgee (Aboriginal for “Nest in the Hills”) is the third largest grape-producing region in NSW.

It is only in recent years though that the region has really blossomed, helped by a diversity of soils and climates to ensure a wide range of wine styles, from the cool-climate styles at Rylstone to the traditional hearty reds from warmer vineyards on the edge of town.

Red varieties dominate, with Shiraz and Cabernet being the top dogs. There are over 25 wineries with cellar doors in the region and an increasing number of cafes, restaurants & boutique hotels.

For many perhaps an unknown region but one well worth visiting.
