When people think of Hobart it used to be all about the colonial history and the finishing line for Australia’s greatest yacht race.

The excellent winery cellar doors of the Southern wine regions surrounding Hobart is changing people’s impression of what this region is known for. Home to elegant cool climate wines including Pinot Noir, Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon/Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer and of course Sparkling, the winery cellar doors are well worth exploring.

With flights cheaper than they have ever been, why not pop down! Sure get your dose of history, but a visit to the many nearby cellar doors to sample the elegant wines of the region sounds more like fun to me.
