The region of Heathcote is well known for producing world class Shiraz, from the Cambrian soil that lies beneath.
Unfortunately the region is underrated as a wine-touring region, which is a shame because it has everything going for it. For instance, it is not far to travel to, there are a cluster of cellar doors within minutes of each other, great wine comes from the region and since many of the wineries are smaller operations, they tend to be manned by the owners and winemakers.
There is no better way to learn more about the wine you are drinking than having the owner/winemaker on hand to answer all your questions.
Apart from excellent Shiraz you will find Viognier pops up a lot and it is of excellent quality as well as Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling. There are, of course, a few other gems out there but that is for you to discover.
