Some of the closest wineries to the city are in Sunbury, a cool climate region that is producing some excellent Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Cabernet. Some Italian varieties are also popping up. At Witchmount in 2008 their Estate Shiraz won the Syrah Du Monde taking out honours for best Shiraz in the world. So don’t for a moment think that this region does not produce classy wines, but don’t take my word, go and see for yourself.
